Spending the weekend in Aarhus (Århus), Denmark? Here is my itinerary for a two day trip.
How to pronounce Aarhus (Århus in Danish):
How not to pronounce Aarhus:
Day 1
1. Den Gamle By (The Old Town)
“In 1914 the museum opened as the world’s first open-air museum of its kind … and to this day it remains one of just a few top rated Danish museums outside Copenhagen, serving more than 400,000 visitors pr. year. Today the museum consists of 75 historical buildings collected from 20 townships in all parts of the country. … most buildings are open for visitors; rooms are either decorated in the original historical style or organized into larger exhibits.”
2. Botanisk Have
The coolest botanical garden you will ever see. A great place for photography!
- Mon-Fri: 9:00am-4:00pm
- Sat, Sun: 10:00am-5:00pm
3. Steno Museet (Science Museum)
- Tue-Fri: 9:00am-4:00pm
- Sat, Sun: 12:00pm-4:00pm
This place does have a bit of a school-field-trip vibe, but if you’re a math/science nerd like me, you will love it!
4. Vor Frue Kirke
One of the few Catholic churches in Denmark.
5. Lille Torv
This cobbled public square is perfect for people watching.
6. Aarhus Domkirke
7. Store Torv
Plaza with a really cool fountain.
8. Bispetorv
Perfect place to relax while soaking in the local culture.
9. Aarhus Teater
Day 2
10. Rådhusparken
If you visit when the flowers are in bloom, you are pretty much guaranteed amazing pics.
11. ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum
- Tue, Thur-Sun: 10:00am-5:00pm
- Wed: 10:00am-10:00pm
Doesn’t this modern art museum just look incredible? The glass rainbow alone would be enough to make any visit worth while.
12. Mølleparken
13. Kunsthal Aarhus
Contemporary art museum. Sometimes the exhibits are really cool, other times, well there are also other times. I would check out the website to see if you’re interested before going.
14. Strøget (Gågaden)
Perfect plaza for shopping for (or better yet, photographing) souvenirs.
15. Kulbroen (Infinite Bridge)
I personally would skip the museum, and just enjoy the experience of this unique view.
